REDONDO BEACH, Los Angeles County — Redondo Beach’s September 2026 council materials describe a proposed renovation of Seaside Lagoon at 200 Portofino Way, intended to replace aging infrastructure while retaining public waterfront recreation.
The proposal calls for a recirculating recreational lagoon approximately five feet deep, beach areas and water-play features, a mechanical and filtration building, new restrooms, utility upgrades, fencing, landscaping, shade and improvements intended to increase accessibility. City staff said a coastal development permit would be required before construction.
Why the timeline matters
Council materials express an objective of completing the work before summer 2028, but that goal depends on timely permits and later contracting. The September agenda sought authorization to prepare and submit permit materials; an agenda proposal is not in itself proof of coastal approval or the start of construction. Residents should inspect subsequent council action and California Coastal Commission decisions.
