REDONDO BEACH, Los Angeles County — The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors says the deteriorated Avenue A beach access ramp in Redondo Beach is being replaced with an accessible route linking the Esplanade and the sand.
The county’s plan includes a new ADA-compliant ramp, a stairway, resting landings, handrails and native landscaping. The June 2026 schedule showed coastal permitting and plan review still in progress, with contract award targeted for 2027 and construction planned for 2027–2028. These dates can change as approvals proceed.
How to reach the beach meanwhile
The county advises beachgoers to use Avenue C or Knob Hill access points while the Avenue A route is unavailable. Both are within approximately a quarter-mile of the closed ramp, but accessibility at alternative routes should be verified before travelling. A planned replacement does not mean the ramp is currently open.
