REDONDO BEACH, Calif. — October 27, 2026. Floodwater surged into Redondo Beach’s International Boardwalk near King Harbor Tuesday during exceptionally high coastal tides, reaching waterfront walkways and some business entrances.

News reports documenting the event identified seawater around Project Barley Taps and Grill at 136 International Boardwalk, where temporary sandbags were placed in response to rising water. Local broadcasts also showed that unusually high harbor water levels affected pedestrian access and waterfront operations. The presence of floodwater around one business does not establish the same water depth or damage at every shop in Redondo Beach.

Why the boardwalk flooded without a major storm

The National Weather Service says unusually elevated high tides can move seawater into coastal low spots even when skies are fair. Regional forecasters described October 27 high tides roughly 1 to 1.5 feet above astronomical expectations for Los Angeles-area beaches. That offset is different from the observed height at the San Pedro tide gauge, which also registered unusually high water during the event.

Are the businesses and pier open?

Individual businesses may choose to remain open, restrict an entrance or close temporarily. California58 has not independently verified that the entire Redondo Beach Pier is closed. Visitors should check the city and venue notices before traveling, avoid any barricaded portions of the boardwalk and stay away from standing saltwater near electrical equipment.

The Coastal Flood Advisory for Los Angeles County beaches remains in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday, October 29. Another high tide could renew flooding even after the morning’s water recedes.
